What Is Bruxism Treatment?

Bruxism — teeth clenching and grinding — is a common condition that can cause jaw pain, headaches, tooth damage and facial tension. This prescription wrinkle reducing treatment targets the masseter (jaw) muscles, temporarily reducing their activity to relieve grinding and clenching.

The same prescription wrinkle reducing treatment used for aesthetic wrinkle treatments is delivered into the masseter muscles on each side of the jaw. This relaxes the muscles, reducing the force of clenching and grinding while often providing the added cosmetic benefit of a slimmer, more contoured jawline.

Available at Angelic Cosmetic Clinic, Kogarah NSW. A medical consultation and assessment is required prior to treatment.

Signs & Symptoms

Do You Suffer from Bruxism?

Bruxism often goes undiagnosed. You may have bruxism if you experience any of the following:

Teeth grinding during sleep or waking hours
Jaw pain, soreness or stiffness
Frequent tension headaches or migraines
Worn, chipped or flattened teeth
Enlarged or bulky-looking jaw muscles
Earache or pain near the jaw joint (TMJ)
Facial pain or tightness
Disrupted sleep (partner may notice grinding sounds)

How This Treatment Helps

Masseter Muscle Relaxation

By delivering a prescription wrinkle reducing treatment into the masseter muscles, the treatment temporarily reduces the strength of the clenching and grinding action. This can provide relief from jaw pain, tension headaches and the associated discomfort of bruxism.

Functional benefits: Reduced grinding force, jaw pain relief, fewer tension headaches, less tooth wear and damage.

Cosmetic benefit: As the masseter muscles gradually reduce in size with repeated treatments, many clients notice a slimmer, more tapered jawline — an aesthetic side effect that is often welcome.

Your Treatment

What to Expect

01

Medical Consultation & Assessment

A thorough assessment of your symptoms, jaw function, medical history and goals. Your practitioner will palpate the masseter muscles to determine their size and activity level, and confirm whether this treatment is appropriate.

02

Informed Consent

Detailed information about the treatment including risks, benefits, alternatives and expected outcomes. Written informed consent is obtained prior to proceeding.

03

Treatment

The wrinkle reducing treatment is administered into the masseter muscles on each side of the jaw using a fine needle. The procedure takes approximately 10–15 minutes. Most clients report minimal discomfort.

04

Aftercare & Review

Aftercare instructions are provided. A review appointment at 2–4 weeks assesses the response and determines whether any adjustment is needed. Ongoing maintenance is typically recommended.

Results

How Long Do Results Last?

Onset

Muscle relaxation typically begins within 3–7 days. Full effect — including noticeable reduction in grinding and clenching — is usually experienced at 2–4 weeks.

Duration

Results typically last 3–6 months. Jawline slimming effects may become more pronounced with repeated treatments as the muscle gradually reduces in bulk.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance treatments are recommended to sustain the reduction in grinding and clenching. Over time, some clients find they can extend the interval between sessions.

Individual Variation

Results vary between individuals depending on masseter muscle size, grinding severity and individual metabolism. Outcomes are not guaranteed.

Results are temporary. Individual outcomes may vary. Angelic Cosmetic Clinic makes no guarantees regarding treatment results.

Suitability

Is This Treatment Right for Me?

Bruxism treatment may be suitable for adults who:

  • Experience teeth grinding or jaw clenching (diagnosed or suspected bruxism)
  • Suffer from jaw pain, tension headaches or TMJ discomfort
  • Wish to reduce the appearance of an enlarged or bulky jawline
  • Are in good general health
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding

This treatment may not be suitable for everyone. If your bruxism is caused by dental or skeletal issues, a referral to a dental specialist may be more appropriate. Your practitioner will assess this at consultation.
