What Is Bruxism Treatment?
Bruxism, also known as teeth clenching and grinding, is a condition that may contribute to jaw discomfort, headaches, tooth wear and facial muscle tension.
Following an individual medical consultation and assessment, treatment options may be discussed where clinically appropriate. One option may involve management of the masseter (jaw) muscles to assist in reducing excessive muscle activity associated with clenching and grinding.
Treatment is tailored to each individual’s clinical presentation, medical history and treatment goals. Suitability is determined during a consultation with a qualified health practitioner.
Consultations are available at Angelic Cosmetic Clinic, Kogarah NSW. A medical assessment is required before any treatment can be recommended or provided.

Do You Suffer from Bruxism?
Bruxism often goes undiagnosed. You may have bruxism if you experience any of the following:
How This Treatment Helps
Masseter Muscle Management
Following an individual medical consultation and assessment, treatment may be considered where clinically appropriate to assist in the management of excessive masseter muscle activity associated with bruxism.
Potential functional benefits may include: Reduced teeth clenching and grinding, reduced jaw muscle tension, relief of jaw discomfort, reduced tension headaches associated with muscle overactivity and reduced tooth wear related to bruxism
Suitability for treatment is determined following a consultation with a qualified health practitioner. Individual responses and outcomes vary. A discussion of potential risks, benefits and alternative management options forms part of the consultation process.
Your Treatment
What to Expect
Medical Consultation & Assessment
A thorough assessment of your symptoms, jaw function, medical history and goals. Your practitioner will palpate the masseter muscles to determine their size and activity level, and confirm whether this treatment is appropriate.
Informed Consent
Detailed information about the treatment including risks, benefits, alternatives and expected outcomes. Written informed consent is obtained prior to proceeding.
Treatment
Where treatment proceeds, the prescription treatment is administered into the masseter muscles on each side of the jaw by a registered health practitioner. The procedure takes approximately 10–15 minutes.
Aftercare & Review
Aftercare instructions are provided. A review appointment at 2–4 weeks assesses the response and determines whether any adjustment is needed. Ongoing maintenance is typically recommended.
Results
How Long Do Results Last?
Onset
Muscle relaxation typically begins within 3–7 days. Full effect — including noticeable reduction in grinding and clenching — is usually experienced at 2–4 weeks.
Duration
Results typically last 3–6 months. Jawline slimming effects may become more pronounced with repeated treatments as the muscle gradually reduces in bulk.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance treatments are recommended to sustain the reduction in grinding and clenching. Over time, some clients find they can extend the interval between sessions.
Individual Variation
Results vary between individuals depending on masseter muscle size, grinding severity and individual metabolism. Outcomes are not guaranteed.
Results are temporary. Individual outcomes may vary. Angelic Cosmetic Clinic makes no guarantees regarding treatment results.
Suitability
Is This Treatment Right for Me?
Bruxism treatment may be suitable for adults who:
- Experience teeth grinding or jaw clenching (diagnosed or suspected bruxism)
- Suffer from jaw pain, tension headaches or TMJ discomfort
- Wish to reduce the appearance of an enlarged or bulky jawline
- Are in good general health
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
This treatment may not be suitable for everyone. If your bruxism is caused by dental or skeletal issues, a referral to a dental specialist may be more appropriate. Your practitioner will assess this at consultation.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
The same type of prescription wrinkle reducing treatment is used, but the treatment area and purpose are different. For bruxism, the treatment is delivered into the masseter (jaw) muscles to reduce grinding and clenching, rather than targeting facial expression lines.
When performed correctly and at appropriate doses, the treatment should not significantly affect your ability to eat or chew normally. The goal is to reduce the excessive clenching force, not eliminate normal jaw function. Your practitioner will use a dose appropriate for your muscle size and activity.
Most clients begin to notice a reduction in grinding and clenching within 1–2 weeks, with full effect at approximately 2–4 weeks. Headache and jaw pain relief often follow as the muscle activity decreases.
Many clients notice a slimmer, more tapered jawline as the masseter muscles gradually reduce in size with treatment. This cosmetic effect becomes more pronounced with repeated treatments. However, individual results vary.
Maintenance treatments are typically required every 3–6 months initially. Some clients find that with repeated treatments, the masseter muscles remain smaller for longer and the interval between treatments can be extended.
